There's more than one road to an Australian permanent visa. We map the main routes — skilled, employer-sponsored, and family — so you can see yours clearly.
Why permanent residency matters
An Australian permanent visa gives you the right to live, work, and study anywhere in Australia indefinitely, access Medicare, and sponsor eligible family members — and it's the foundation for eventual citizenship.
Because the routes to PR are many and the rules shift, the first decision is choosing the pathway that best fits your profile rather than the one most commonly discussed.
The skilled route
General Skilled Migration (189, 190, 491) is the primary route for qualified professionals without an employer sponsor. It's points-tested and competitive, rewarding strong English, skilled experience, and careful occupation choice.
For graduates, the student → 485 → skilled transition is a well-trodden path that builds the experience and points needed for a competitive EOI.
The employer-sponsored route
Employer sponsorship (482 → 186, or the 494 regional visa) suits those with an Australian employer willing to sponsor them. The medium-term 482 stream and the 186 Employer Nomination Scheme together form one of the most reliable PR routes.
The key is occupation choice and a sponsor who meets their obligations — we structure both for a clean transition.
The family route
Partner, parent, and child visas provide PR pathways for those with qualifying family relationships in Australia. Partner visas in particular lead to permanent residency after a staged process.
Strong, consistent evidence is the deciding factor here, not points or occupations.
A clear strategy
Most successful applicants have a primary pathway and a realistic backup. We help you identify both, build the evidence for each, and time your applications so every step moves you closer to permanent residency — not sideways.
